THE community in Downpatrick is mourning the death of Mr. Hermon Jerome McConvey in the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, on December 12 at the age of 72.
Mr. McConvey was born in Downpatrick on May 2, 1940, and was educated at St. Patrick’s Primary School and the Christian Brothers School. On leaving school he worked in the building trade and with the Electricity Board before taking up his final occupation with the DoE.
His main interest in life was his wife, Marie, to whom he was devoted, and to the family home. Other interests included dancing, going to the cinema and theatre, long walks, dogs, gardening and horses.
Mr. McConvey was a much loved husband, brother, brother-in-law and uncle to many nephews and nieces. He is sadly missed and will always be remembered for his wide breadth of knowledge, straight talking, advice and concern for all.
The Very Rev. Canon Sean Rogan celebrated Requiem Mass in St. Patrick’s Church on December 14, after which interment was in Struell Cemetery.
