Mr. Con Magee

Mr. Con Magee, of Edward Street, Downpatrick, passed away in Downe Hospital on June 24, aged 68.

A much loved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, he is survived by his wife, Margaret, four children, Maria, Conan, Angela and Julie, two sisters, Briege and Siobhan, and a brother, Gerard.

He was born in Kilclief on February 22, 1945. He was a hard worker and began his working life at the age of ten helping local farmers.

He served his time as a joiner with McGrady Bros. and went to work for James Denvir and, later, his uncle, Dinny Magee.

His work took him to Lurgan where he met his wife, Margaret, settled and had four children.

In 1977 the family moved to Downpatrick where he took over the local shop in which his family worked for the next 20 years. He had to retire in 1997 due to ill health. This gave him the opportunity to build a house and a garden which he dearly loved.

Mr. Magee was a lifelong supporter of the GAA, particularly the RGU club in Downpatrick, Kilclief and Down.

He loved going to the motorbike races at the North West 200 and was a big fan of the late Joey Dunlop. He played golf and also enjoyed travelling, particularly to new destinations in Russia and other parts of Europe.

He loved country and western music and was able to fulfil one of his dreams by visiting Nashville in America.

He will be sadly missed.
