Mr. Colm Murray

MR. Colm Murray, who passed away peacefully at his home, 26 Ardkeel Park, Newcastle, was a valued member of the staff at the Mourne Observer newspaper for nearly 30 years.

Mr. Murray, who was 78, worked for the paper from 1972 until his retirement in 2000.

He was a skilled mechanic who ensured that the presses rolled each week. He maintained other printing machines and was a valued and respected member of the Mourne Observer team.

Born in Tollymore, he had a deep affinity for the Newcastle area. He loved its people and the unrivalled majesty of the Mourne Mountains.

He was married for 51 years to his beloved wife, Bernadette, who survives him along with their sons, Mark, Niall, Aidan and Jeremy, daughter Jennifer, son-in-law Ryan, daughters-in-law Patricia, Paula and Deirdre, and 14 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Winnie, Josie, Betty and Teresa.

Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Newcastle was filled to capacity for the funeral service, which was conducted by Fr. Jim Crudden PP, who paid a touching tribute. There were Bible readings by Mr. Murray’s nephew, Ian McCrickard, and son-in-law, Ryan Deary. Also taking part in the service were his grandchildren, Aisling, Tanya, Shannen, Dean and Colm Murray.

 

Interment was in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Bryansford.
