Mountain rescue team to mark anniversary at special celebration

FIFTY years after the first mountain rescue team took to the slopes of the Mournes a special celebration is being planned.

The golden anniversary dinner will be held in the Burrendale Hotel on April 1 to mark the achievements of the Mourne Mountain Rescue Team which has been involved in hundreds of rescues since being formed in 1962.

The legandary Irish mountaineer, explorer, writer and braodcaster, Dermot Somers, will be the keynote speaker at the

event which will include an audio visual presentation looking at some of the memoriable moments in the past 50 years.

Organisers are hoping past team members and supporters will attend the event, details of which will be released in March. Information will be on on the team’s Facebook page and in local media closer to the event. The tickets will be on a first come first served basis.
