Meningitis survivor’s thanks

17 July 2013

A BALLYNAHINCH woman who survived meningitis has raised over £2,000 to help research the disease.

Avril Burrows, who spent time in both the Downe and Ulster hospitals, contracted the disease in February.

At a recent coffee morning she raised £2,611for the Meningitis Research Foundation.

Meningitis Research Foundation Ireland Manager, Diane McConnell, said: “Special thanks to Avril and to all those who donated and made contributions to the coffee morning.

“We very much rely on public support and local people like Avril to enable us to fund research, raise awareness and support those who have already been affected by meningitis and septicaemia.”

Avril would like to extend thanks to her neighbours who baked items, The Cake Shop in Ballynahinch, Ballynahinch Lions Club and family, friends and those who brought meals and looked after her children while she was recovering from Meningitis.
