KILLYLEAGH Karate club have done it again.

Five members of the club were selected to represent Ireland in the European Karate Championships, which were held in Lisbon, Portugal, last weekend.

This is the third time the club has had representation and medal success at this prestigious event. The event had no less than 12 countries from throughout Europe compete against each other in Kumite and Kata.

Niamh Cunningham won a silver in the female kumite and her Dad, Tom, won a bronze medal in the men’s veteran Kata event.

Club instructor Darren Brown, who officiated at the tournament, said the standard this year in all categories was extremely high and he was very proud of how all his students performed.

He said it was an honour once again for the students of the Killyleagh club to compete and experience Karate at this high level and to bring back medals is a fantastic achievement.

The club trains at the Bridge Centre, Killyleagh, on Thursday nights. Children, 7.15-8pm; adults and senior grades, 8-9pm.
