Man facing sex abuse charges

A 36-YEAR-OLD man will appear at Downpatrick Crown Court next month in relation to numerous charges of sexually assaulting a young girl.

During a preliminary enquiry at Downpatrick Court on Thursday, the man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the alleged victim, was charged with 10 counts of gross indecency with a child, six counts of indecently assaulting a child and six counts of sexually touching a child that involved penetration.

He was also charged with five counts of sexually touching a child, three counts of intentionally causing a child to engage in sexual activity, one count of inciting a child to commit an act of gross indecency with himself, one count of buggery with a child and one count of unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under 14-years-old. All the allegations relate to the same girl.

All of these incidents are alleged to have taken place during an eight year period between March 6, 2004 and May 28 this year.

The man was remanded in custody to appear at Downpatrick Crown Court on December 13.
