Major expansion planned for Millbrook Lodge Hotel

Major expansion planned for Millbrook Lodge Hotel

13 April 2016

FORMAL plans have been submitted for a major extension at the Millbrook Lodge Hotel in Ballynahinch as part of a substantial investment proposal.

Planning permission is being sought to provide an additional 16 bedrooms and 16,000 square lot spa and conference centre, which has the potential to double the current workforce to around 150 full and part-time staff.

News of the major expansion which is being financed by Maguire Hotels, owners of the Millbrook, emerged during the recent public inquiry into plans for Ballynahinch’s new £50m by-pass. The near two mile scheme will link the Belfast and Newcastle roads with construction work potentially getting underway towards the end of next year.

The Millbrook owners are hoping a new right turning lane into the popular hotel will be provided as part of the multi-million pound road scheme to ensure patrons are provided with unimpeded access.

It is hoped work on the major extension at the popular hotel can get underway once Newry, Mourne and Down Council gives the significant redevelopment scheme the green light.

The provision of an additional 16 bedrooms will take the hotel’s complement to 34.

In addition to the proposed extension, significant work has been carried out internally restructuring the hotel. The main dining area has been completely refurbished, with new toilets provided. There are also plans for a new conservatory and pre-function bar.
