SIR, — With Christmas almost upon us I would appeal to people across the district to keep a watch out for their elderly neighbours.
At this time of year the weather can be particularly hard on the elderly, especially those who live alone.
There are many elderly people across our district whose only contact with
the outside world is
the home helps they see every day.
I would also like to praise the hardworking home helps whose contribution to society is incalculable. They work 365 days a year and provide an excellent service.
The work home helps
do largely goes unnoticed and we should also spare a thought for them this
Christmas and New Year when they will be working as normal.
On a personal note, I would like to wish all the people of the district a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Yours etc.,
CLLR. BILLY WALKER,
Killyleagh.
