Killyleagh group launches Somme battle book

THE Sloanes local history group has presented a copy of the recently released second edition of Killyleagh Remembers The Great War to the Somme Heritage Centre.

The presentation was made by Austin Cheevers to the Heritage Centre’s head guide, Matt Campbell.

Copies of the book can be purchased in Killyleagh from Barrett’s shop, the Spar and from Zena McAllister, but stocks are limited.

Proceeds from the sale of the book will be used to help fund cross -community events in Killyleagh which are being organised by Sloanes and the Best of Killyleagh group to commemorate the centenary of the Battle of the Somme.

Anyone interested in local history and would like to join the Sloanes should note that the group meets at 1pm on the second Friday in the month at the town’s library.
