Killyleagh club’s Famous Five for Portugal

OPHIR Karate Club in Killyleagh have five students selected to represent Ireland in the European Karate Championships in Lisbon later this month. The club kicked off their fund-raising events a number of months ago with their instructor, Darren Brown, taking part in a gruelling five-mile barefoot run.

The fund-raising campaign finished on Sunday with a very enjoyable Zumba session in Killyleagh Bridge Centre, which was led by one of Northern Ireland’s top Zumba instructors, Emmanuel McStravick.

During the session the participants were treated to a surprise line-dancing performance by the ‘Gemstars’. This troop was put together several months ago by Gemma Magoran to help fund raise for a separate charity event.

This special performance was sponsored by Dyno Rod who made a generous donation to the Ophir Karate Fund. The club would like to take this opportunity to thank all the students, parents and friends who have supported their fund raising efforts.

Special thanks also goes to C-Tec in Newry, Reece Garland &Tagit Fishing Club in Newtownards, Dyno Rod and, of course, Emmanuel McStravick, who once again has shown his continued support for the club.

Good luck to all the students at the European Championships.
