KILLINCHY Cycling Club recently celebrated a very successful first year at its AGM.

The club was formed in November 2012 by local cycling enthusiasts Drew Murray and Ross Galway.

The pair encouraged a few friends to join and as word spread and the club’s distinctive black, orange and white jerseys were seen around the countryside, the club grew quickly and now has 30 members.

The club meets at Killinchy Community Hall on Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesday evenings and club runs have been well attended throughout the year.

The highlight was when members participated in the Co-operation Ireland Maracycle, a 220 mile trip from Belfast to Dublin and back to Belfast over two days.

Club chairman Drew Murray was first to cross the finish line in Belfast and said: “It was a great achievement for club members, some of whom had only been cycling for a year, to complete this epic challenge.

“The club has taken great pride in its community involvement and I’m delighted that we were able to raise over £3,000 to support the Children’s Hyperinsulin Fund at Great Ormond Street, Marie Curie and Christian Aid. However, more than anything, members have enjoyed a great year’s cycling.”

The club is delighted to announce that it will be hosting the first Killinchy 150 cycle on Sunday, August 17, 2014. This is open to all cyclists and will offer three local routes, 150km (93 miles), 100km (62 miles) and 25km (15 miles).

Killinchy Cycling Club is a friendly leisure club enjoying road cycling and mountain biking. New members are very welcome and the club holds regular novice runs for people to experience the joys of group cycling.
