Kilclief aim for glory at this week’s regional Féile event

25 May 2022

ALL roads lead to Kildare for the regional Féile this Saturday where Down camogie U-15s Féile section A winners Kilclief Ben Dearg will take on St Laurence’s (Kildare), Ballyduff (Kerry), Castlebar Mitchells (Mayo), Naomh Brid (Donegal), O’Moores (Laois) Four Roads (Roscommon) and Mount Sion (Waterford).

This is a very talented bunch of young camogs from the shores of Kilclief that have been coming through the ranks in the club for some years now.

To club coaches Catherine Deegan and Lisa Lawlor, it was no surprise when the girls came away as champions of the Down féile just over a month ago.

“We are incredibly proud of our girls and what they have achieved already this season,” said coach Lisa Lawlor.

“They always give one hundred percent commitment, and their skill level is improving with every game.

“The Down Féile win has really helped to improve their confidence and the girls are starting to believe what Catherine and I have always told them – anything is possible when you put the work in and believe.”

The rural community and club of Kilclief Ben Dearg has really got behind this team of players over the past week.

The players hosted a bake sale on Saturday past in the village of Strangford where they raised £940.10 towards their Féile fund.

Senior camog, Bronagh Kearney, and her mum, Therese Conway, also had tea, coffee and snacks in the clubrooms during matches over the weekend and raised £255 for the girls.

The team were also delighted to accept a donation towards their travel from Fiona Breen from Fastyre, Downpatrick. This will go a long way to support the girls in the regional Féile.
