JuJitsu gradings terrific success for local clubs

31 December 2014

DOWN Community JuJitsu Clubs recently held two successful gradings in Ballynahinch Leisure Centre and in Avoniel Leisure Centre, Belfast.

Down Community JuJitsu Clubs is an elite group of JuJitsu clubs headed by Master Gerald McAlister, 5th Degree Black Belt, and his team of excellent coaches and helpers who volunteer to teach the junior and senior students much more than the art of JuJitsu.

The club grading was overseen by Shihan David Toney, head of World JuJitsu Federation Ireland and Master Gerald McAlister’s coach for over 23 years.

With students in attendance from Down Community JuJitsu Club’s five sections in Ballynahinch, Crossgar, Newcastle, Leitrim and Drumaness, planning started weeks before to ensure the grading marks.

The national grading is where all clubs within World JuJitsu Federation Ireland come together to grade for advanced belts.

Down Community JuJitsu Clubs students showed an excellent performance of the art of JuJitsu to their examiners and were a great example of what Down Community JuJitsu Clubs is about in teaching students to respect themselves and others.

Master Gerald McAlister said:”It was a very proud day for myself and all our coaches to watch our students excel and progress to the next level in their jujitsu lives.

“This is down to the the excellent team of coaches and helpers within Down Community JuJitsu Clubs. I know that every coach, helper and parent were extremely proud of all the children that graded on the day.

“Forget about winning and losing. Focus on learning, it’s a much better long term strategy.”
