BALLYGOWAN’S Jim McClenaghan and Willie Convery won the recent 1st Ballynahinch Bowling Club tournament for the Tercentenary Cup.

Dessie and Jean Hamilton (Hillsborough Social Club), Paddy Murray and Kieran McMullan (St. Mary’s, Killyleagh), Jim McClenaghan and Willie Convery (Ballygowan), Terry Crawford and David Burns (Ardenlee) Paul and Don McNamara (Spa Golf Club), Laurence McCartan and Robert Kidd (Armagh Golf Club), Eddie Crawford and Alisha Weir (Mossley) and Peter Campbell and Thomas Canavan (Conlig) emerged as section winners over four nights competitive bowling.

In two close semi-finals, McClenaghan and Convery beat Dessie and Jean Hamilton 8-7 and Eddie Crawford and Alisha Weir beat Laurence McCartan and Robert Kidd.

The large audience was treated to an exciting final.

Eddie and Alisha got away to a great start with three shorts, followed by two single shots to the Ballygowan duo.

The scores were even at the fifth and ninth ends before McClenaghan and Convery picked up two shorts on the 10th end. Shaw scored one shot in an extremely tight last end, but the Ballygowan pair held out for victory.

Paul Logan, vice-chairman of the organising committee, thanked all those bowlers who had competed over the four nights, umpires Harry Stevens, Tom Gribbon and George Dawson and the large number of spectators who attended the final.

the prizes were presented by Rev. Laszlo Orban and the competition was sponsored by Bobby Morrison Funeral Directors and Alex Gibson.
