Insect identified

SIR, — With reference to the ‘unusual insect’ which appeared in the Recorder’s Letters’ Page on June 21, the photograph submitted by Mr Eugene Gibney depicts a Humming-bird Hawk Moth which comes all the way from Africa.

I have seen several of these insects visit my garden and, like the house martins who nest around my home, also come from Africa. I feel very privileged to have them in my garden.
