Hunt for Down’s Rose is underway as girls tour district

THE search for the Down Rose of 2014 is now on.

Some entrants for this year’s Down Rose of Tralee went on a tour of the area last weekend, taking in some local sights including Castleward, Ballyhornan beach and Ardglass Golf Club where they joined club captain, Tony Maynes, for dinner.

The Down Rose will be held as part of the 55th annual Rose of Tralee International festival.

More events are lined up for this year’s Down entrants over the coming weeks including a luxurious night of Diamonds and Daiquiris at Jack Murphy Jewellers, Newry; go-karting and laser-quest, bouldering in the Mournes, spa treatment and afternoon tea at the Slieve Donard.

This year’s overall winner will drive away for the year in a Kia Car packed full of jewellery and homeware products from Newbridge Silverware and a world travel prize valued at €25,000.

Anyone interested in taking part this year must be between the ages of 18 and 27.

There are many more events taking place before the final selection night, which will be held on Sunday, April 27, in The Slieve Donard Resort and Spa, Newcastle.
