House fire and ‘attack’ prompt PSNI appeal

12 November 2014

POLICE have launched an appeal for information following two early morning incidents in Ballynahinch last Monday.

Detectives are keen to hear from anyone who can help with their enquires following a suspicious house fire at Windmill Drive. No one was in the property at the time, but a bedroom was damaged during the blaze which started around 12.30am. A 27 year-old man was subsequently arrested and has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

In the second incident, police received reports that a 22 year-old man was injured in what the PSNI has described as “suspicious circumstances” at the Hillfoot Crescent area around 6.30am.

He was taken to hospital for minor leg wounds, but the cause of his injuries has not been ascertained.

PSNI Inspector Debbie Eakin said police want to hear from anyone who was in the Windmill Drive area early on Monday morning and may have witnessed any suspicious activity to contact police. She said detectives are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have observed a suspicious vehicle in the area at the time.

Anyone who can help police with their enquires in relation to either incident in Ballynahinch is asked to contact detectives at Downpatrick police station on 101.
