Hospice to benefit from Oliver production at local high school

DE La Salle High School is putting the finishing touches to its latest lavish musical production, Oliver!

Running on February 14 and 15, all money raised from the play will be donated to the Northern Ireland Hospice.

The idea for the musical came from Head Boy, Jason Magee, who wanted a memorable way of marking the end of his seven years at the school.

“Underpinned by my enthusiasm in drama and music, I have since become Assistant Director and have taken great delight in watching our whole school, both staff and students, dedicate both after school and weekends to create Oliver,” said Jason, who is starring as Fagin in this production. “What makes our play even more poignant for me is the fact that we have decided to donate all monies raised from Oliver to charity — namely the Northern Ireland Hospice.

“The immense support that pupils and staff, both past and present, have received from them is infallible; it is a charity that is close to all our hearts and one well worth supporting. In return for a whole night’s entertainment, all we ask for is a donation at the door to help support our cause.”

Jason believes Oliver! will be as memorable as other major productions at De La Salle in previous years, which have included Bugsy Malone, Sister Act, Jesus Christ Superstar and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

“I, along with the rest of my year, can honestly say that it will be a sad farewell to the best years of our lives as we head for new heights at the end of this year,” said Jason. “The hard work and dedication of all the staff has ensured that we leave Year 14 as well rounded individuals, ready for the next challenge that life brings, and this production, Oliver, will be a fitting way to finish on a high note.

“So, feel free to come along on Thursday, February 14 or Friday, February 15. Doors open at 7pm and show begins at 7.30 pm. Join me and the rest of our cast for a musical delight, and help us raise money for charity at the same time.”
