Gregory makes hay to win on Elvis’ big day

16 September 2015

DESPITE the heavy overnight rain and water lying on some fairways, the open competition sponsored by K C  Skip Hire & Recycling got underway at Crossgar Golf Club at 7.45am on Saturday morning.

The early players had much lighter rain than forecast, and it ceased altogether after the first few holes, brightening into what turned out to be a lovely late morning and afternoon.

Despite a number of withdrawals from the earlier part of the day, over 70 competitors had a really enjoyable round of golf, followed by very welcome refreshments served in the clubhouse by the lady members.

At the prize ceremony in the evening, the club captain, Ian Patterson, welcomed Elvis Kirk of K C Skip Hire & Recycling and thanked him very much for sponsoring the competition.

He expressed his appreciation to the groundsmen and volunteers for the great condition in which they had presented the course.

He thanked all those who had supplied and/or served the food.

The captain thanked the prize winners and friends for supporting the prize ceremony and stated that he had also intended to promote the support for the Night at the Races by encouraging people to sponsor a race or buy a horse but that he was very pleased to see that the sheet was almost full.

Instead, he thanked all those who had participated in this fund raising effort and encouraged everyone to come along on September 26 to join in and enjoy the event, following the prize giving of the next Open to be held that day.

Elvis Kirk was then invited to present the prizes as follows: ladies best front nine, Maeve Fay; best back nine, Pauline Morgan; longest drive, Rebecca Morrison; nearest the pin, Patricia Keane; nine hole competition, Elizabeth Hume;

third lady, Rosemary Boulter; 2nd lady, Patricia Keane; first lady, Elizabeth Patterson.

Men’s longest drive, Gregory Douglas; nearest the pin, David Logan; best gross, Malachy Magee; third place, Sydney Pentland; second place Jackie Orchin; first place, Gregory Douglas; juvenile winner, Adam Withers.
