Golf tournament in memory of Olivia

10 August 2016

THE Olivia Cullen Memorial Golf Tournament is being held this year on Friday.

The event at St Patrick’s Golf Club will be in aid of the Ulster Hospital’s Children’s Ward charity ‘Peads in a Pod’.

Local professional golfer Cormac Sharvin is also hoping to play.

Olivia sadly passed away in May 2012 at 18 months having fought a number of illnesses in her short life. She had a rare chromosomal condition (HMG-CoA synthase deficiency), which meant her body did not respond as it should when she contracted the norovirus on Christmas Day 2011.

Last year the golf tournament raised £7,500 for the Royal Hospital’s Helping Hands Charity for their Children’s Neurological Rehabilitation Service.

So far the Cullen and Teggart families have raised £32,500 for the children’s charities they have supported in memory of Olivia.

The MRI scanner they supported is now in place and functioning in the Royal’s Sick Children’s Hospital.

There will be a presentation on Friday evening with live music and a disco.
