Get outdoors to sample free events

17 September 2014

PEOPLE will be encouraged to get outdoors this weekend with free entry to a number of recreational events.

Several venues will host free outdoor activities on Saturday and Sunday as part of this year’s Get Outdoors Weekend to encourage the public to be more active.

Events will include free entry to Castle Ward, mountain biking and navigation courses in Tollymore, a mushroom walk at Silent Valley, a beach clean at Murlough, guided walks in the Mournes as well as birdwatching for beginner’s in Castle Espie WWT Wetland Centre.

Each event will be guided by an outdoor expert to show participants the ropes and offer encouragement.

There will be free entry to Castle Ward on Saturday, while those interested in learning the basic skills of bird watching can join Castle Espie’s resident expert Dot Blakely, as she shares her knowledge of the local birds from 1pm until 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Pre-booking is required for this event, for further information and to book, go to www.GetOutdoorsWeekend.com

Alternatively, take part in the Lough Shannagh Irish Heritage Walk from Attical and enjoy the Irish heritage aspect as well as the abundance of local flora and fauna that this spectacular trail to Lough Shannagh has to offer.

All events are listed on www.GetOutdoors
