Get down and dirty for charity urges businessman

28 September 2016

A CASTLEWELLAN businessman has called on locals to join him at Cancer Fund for Children’s charity Bog Run on October 9.

Michael Johnston, owner of Fresh Foods, Castlewellan, is encouraging others to get ‘mucked to the eyeballs’ at the 5K charity run in Castlewellan Forest Park next month.

The event, which is in its second year, will once again see charity runners getting covered in mud as they take on the ‘bog’ to raise funds to support children and families affected by cancer.

Every week in Northern Ireland another three children, teenagers and young adults are diagnosed with cancer.

Cancer Fund for Children offers practical, emotional and financial support as well as free short therapeutic breaks to local families whose lives have been affected by the illness.

The Bog Run is a light hearted event, which requires no prior experience and Cancer Fund for Children is looking for enthusiastic and fun loving people to join them in their muddy fundraiser.

Michael said his company had been a longstanding support of the charity and its Daisy Lodge facility in Newcastle.

“There’s a team of around 10 of us who are taking on the Bog Run,” he said.

“We can’t wait for a great day out together getting stuck in and getting muddy to raise funds for local families affected by cancer.”

Registration for the event is £30 with minimum sponsorship of £100. Anyone over the age of 16 can take part and those under 18 will need written permission from a parent or guardian.
