Mr. Patrick Denvir

MR. Paddy Denvir, of Mearne Road, Downpatrick, who passed away on January 14 after a challenging illness, lived all his life beside the Quoile river. He was 73.

Paddy was the only son of Kitty Denvir and his devotion to her was evident to all who knew him. He was a big, gentle man who was always willing to help a neighbour of a friend.

A keen sportsman, he was for many years a member of Quoile Yacht Club where he sailed Kassew, his Enterprise dinghy. He played cricket, hockey and, later bowls. He also enjoyed horse racing and was a familiar face at Downpatrick racecourse.

His other passion in life was gardening and would be generous to those in need of a lawnmower or hedge cutter. He will be missed at the Sunday morning car boot sales in Dundrum where he was always seeking a bargain in order to expand his gardening equipment.

Paddy will also be missed by all who knew him, particularly his Aunt Nellie, all his cousins, neighbours and his many friends.

His Month’s Mind Mass will be celebrated in St. Patrick’s Church, Saul, at 6.30pm on Saturday, March 23.
