Gail shortlisted for equine award over Hurricane Fly care

2 December 2015

A BALLYNAHINCH woman who works for the highly respected Willie Mullins horse racing stable has been nominated for a prestigious award.

Gail Carlisle, who is the groom in charge of history maker Hurricane Fly — the 22-time winner over hurdles in a remarkable career — has been nominated

in the outstanding achievement category in this year’s Horse Racing Ireland awards.

The ceremony takes place next Monday, December 7, at Leopardstown racecourse when the names of the seven category winners will be announced.

Thirty representatives of the Irish racing industry have been selected for consideration and Gail is hoping to taste success in recognition of her work with an award-winning stable.

Hurricane Fly was a brilliant hurdler and while he was regarded as a very quirky customer who was difficult to handle at times, Gail was never far from his side and looked after him superbly for seven very successful years.

The winner of the outstanding achievement award is selected by the Irish racing media and the general public through a dedicated Horse Racing Ireland awards app or through forms available from the organisation.
