Fun run is under starter’s orders

The popular Ballynahinch Lions Club 10K and Fun Run chalks up another milestone next month, with the charity event being staged for the 24th successive time.

Saturday’s event, open to all age groups, has a 2.30pm start from the Market House in Ballynahinch and will take in the magnificent Montalto Estate.

Over the years many of the top athletes in Northern Ireland have taken part, but this particular event is open to all age groups, and there is even a section for fancy dress runners.

As usual runners, joggers or walkers will be taking part with adequate changing facilities available at the Market House or the nearby Community Centre in Windmill Street.

This year motorists are asked to note that for one hour from 2.30pm to 3.30pm the Spa Road from Mill Bridge to Spa Village will be closed as part of the safety arrangements implemented by the Lions to protect their supporters.

“We would ask everyone to please just be a little bit patient as the safety of our competitors and spectators is paramount and we want everyone to have an enjoyable day with us in Ballynahinch,” said Richard Scott, Lions Club president.

Mr. Scott also urged those taking part to register early to avoid congestion on the day.

“We are inviting everyone to come along on Saturday, April 27 to enjoy what has always been a most enjoyable event, and even if you are not a participant then let’s hear a massive roar of encouragement for all involved.”
