Flyer Fitzpatrick is fifth at Gosford

22 January 2014

SIXTEEN Murlough runners faced the hills and trails of Born 2 Run’s Gosford 10k event at the weekend.

Whilst the temperatures dipped and the rain continued to pour, some 480 brave souls stood patiently awaiting the start gun. That’s the beauty of Born2Run events, no matter the weather you know each run offers gorgeous scenery and breathtaking views to make up for anything Mother Nature throws in.

The start line was crowded with runners coming from near and far to try out the course. John Fitzpatrick made a quick getaway and was running comfortably throughout, first Murlough man in and in fifth position overall in an outstanding 37:28.

Second man home was the always impressive Dave Fulcher in 47:19 with Miceal Haughian not far behind that, third MAC male home in 52:06.

Nicola Mathers threw in a strong run getting a new PB of more than 2.5 minutes and the first Murlough woman over the line in a tremendous 52.11, Catherine McIntosh followed with 56:02 and Selena Mussen in 58:43, knocking just over five minutes off last year’s time.

A special mention must surely go to Paula McKibbin recently returning to running having broken her foot not six months ago. She ran a good race and seems to be back on track for 2014.

With the course presenting some tough hills and inches upon inches of mud, it was great to see so many with personal bests and improved times.

Ciara Murphy made a last minute decision to see what Gosford had to offer and no doubt feels enthusiastic about entering her next race after such a successful day.

John McVeigh went the distance to shave 10 minutes of his last year’s time, what a difference a year makes and Kevin Pryce also had a much improved time and PB this year and no doubt will be looking out for Born2Run’s Minnowburn 10k.

In all, the Murlough crew left Gosford very happy, if not ready to be power hosed off and mucked to the eyeballs and it seems many are looking forward to the next Born2Run 10k on February 8.
