Fly tying event pulled in many from abroad

SIR, — The Dibney Conservation Trust held its fifth international fly tying event in Killyleagh last weekend and it was another resounding success.

I would like to pay tribute to the organisers of the event which attracted experts from home and from across Europe.

Last weekend’s event came hot on the heels of Killyleagh’s recent Diamond Jubilee celebrations and provided another timely boost for the local economy.

I have been informed that all available beds for visitors in the town were snapped up last weekend for the event which was concentrated on three venues, including Killyleagh Castle, the Dufferin Coaching Inn and the Bridge Community Centre.

Special thanks to Stephen Kennedy of the Dibney Conservation Trust for his efforts and organisational skills ahead of and during last weekend’s event.

Stephen has been the backbone of the international festival and while Down Council provided sponsorship for the event, I believe it could invest more money into the event to make it even better.

Yours etc.,

CLLR. BILLY WALKER,

Killyleagh.
