Felix raises £3,500 for Cancer Fund for Children at 100th birthday party

3 July 2019

ROSSGLASS centenarian Felix Burns has donated £3,500 to the Cancer Fund for Children in

lieu of his recent birthday presents.

The father-of-13, who turned 100 on May 1, was delighted to receive a congratulatory card from the Queen along with a letter and a cheque for €2,000 from the President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins.

Some of the family members and friends, who so generously donated to his birthday celebrations, were with him last week when the money was handed over to the charity which runs the Daisy Lodge centre in Newcastle.

The money was raised as a result of the family throwing a massive party on the Ballylig Road farm where Mr Burns worked all his life.

He was born in Ballykinlar just weeks before the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, which officially marked the end of the First World War in June 1919.

He was married to his late wife Isobel for more than 50 years until her sad loss in 1999.

The Burns family would like to express their sincere thanks to everyone who made a donation and gave Felix a memorable and special day.
