Family raise over £2,300 as thanks to NI Hospice

12 November 2014

A DOWNPATRICK family, touched by the care a loved one received at the Northern Ireland Hospice, has raised over £2,300 for the charity.

The Rogan family raised £2,378 through a fundraising event in The Castle Inn, Ballynoe, on Saturday, October 18.

The event was organised as a tribute to the life of a much loved husband, father, brother and grandfather, Joe Rogan, who passed away in June.

Joe was cared for at home by Northern Ireland Hospice nurses.

When handing over the cheque at the Ballynoe bar on November 1, Joe’s son, Paul Rogan said the family wanted to raise as much as possible for the hospice to thank staff for their support at such a difficult time.

“The support, comfort and care my father received from the hospice, and in particular from community nurses Margaret McDowell and Hilary McPolin in our time of need, was second to none,” he said.

“We wanted to thank them and raise funds to help other families like us. We would like to thank all of our friends and family who helped us raise such a fantastic amount.”

Deirdre Melly, community fundraiser for NI Hospice thanked the Rogan family for their tremendous effort.

“Our nurses could not provide the care that they do to so many families, without the support of families like the Rogan’s,’ she said.

“Your support comes at a time when we need it most — we are rebuilding our hospice on Somerton Road, North Belfast, which will, when completed in late 2015, provide the foundations from which we will build a legacy of hospice care for generations to come.

“But before this becomes a reality, we still need to raise £2.1m towards the £13m rebuild project.

“That is why donations like this one from the Rogan Family are so important to us.”
