Ex-BBC correspondent launches book on John Hume in Downpatrick

AUTHOR and former BBC political correspondent Stephen Walker launched his new book about John Hume in the St Patrick Centre, Downpatrick, last Wednesday evening.

The book entitled ‘John Hume The Persuader’, is said to be the definitive biography of the former SDLP leader.

The book is based on 100 interviews with people who knew Mr Hume and provides a fascinating account of his political career and personal life.

Former BBC political editor Mark Devenport interviewed Mr Walker in front of a packed auditorium for over 90 minutes and took many questions from people who knew Mr Hume or were involved locally in the SDLP.

Mr Walker said: “It was a pleasure to be back in Downpatrick at the St Patrick Centre and to meet so many people who knew John Hume.”
