Election candidate is delighted with backing

SIR, — I would like to thank all those who supported me throughout the recent local government election campaign.

Whether it was helping in the background, knocking on doors, standing outside the polling stations or spreading the word, I want to thank them from the bottom of my heart.

Without their help and support, the great people of Downpatrick would not have been able to place their trust in me as an Aontú candidate.

I would especially like to thank the 524 voters who voted for ‘life’ in this election by placing their preferences next to my name on the ballot paper.

This was my first election and indeed that of Aontú and I am delighted and humbled by the support from the good people of Downpatrick and Lecale.

I offer my warmest wishes to all of the candidates who stood in the Downpatrick DEA and congratulate all of our newly elected councillors.

I hope that those who asked people to vote for rights and pro-life, along with their parties, will protect the universal human right of life and deliver for local people.

I will continue working hard to deliver real prosperity for Downpatrick and its people via the Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership, DEA Forum, Down Community Health Committee and Downpatrick Community Collective.

Yours etc,

MACARTAN DIGNEY,

Downpatrick.
