Education bus tour to boost recycling drive

Education bus tour to boost recycling drive

10 August 2016

A RECYCLING education bus will be visiting local household recycling centres next week.

The arc 21 Waste Beater education bus will be in Castlewellan, Downpatrick and Ballykinlar as part of an on-going Newry, Mourne and Down Council campaign to increase recycling.

At each recycling centre there will be an opportunity for keen recyclers to enter a prize draw worth £50, win spot prizes, giveaways, children’s craft activities and above all learn more about recycling.

Council Chairwoman, Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick said the bus will be a great focal point and will provide important recycling information in a fun and interactive way.

“This initiative, together with the recent improvement allowing more plastic to be recycled via blue bin services, will help increase our current recycling rate of 40% and raise more awareness about the benefits of recycling.

“I would like to thank everyone in our district for all recycling efforts to date, Re-Gen Waste Ltd and arc21 for their support and wish everyone good luck in the prize draw.”

Re-Gen Waste Ltd processes all the recyclable material collected by the Newry, Mourne and Down Council Blue bin service and sponsors the main prize draws. The firm will be rewarding one lucky recycler from each recycling centre a prize worth £50 plus there will also be other spot prizes on the day.

On each road show stop the bus will be jam-packed with information on what we can do to recycle more, provide information on recycling schemes plus children can take part in a variety of recycled craft activities. Council officers will also be on hand to encourage recycling and answer any questions people may have.

To be eligible to enter the competition simply be at your local Household Recycling Centre when the Education Bus arrives and have your waste pre-sorted for recycling keeping non-recyclable waste to a minimum.

The bus will be in the Bann Road in Castlewellan on Thursday, August 18, from 2-4 pm; Cloonagh Road, Downpatrick, on Friday, August 19 from 10-12 noon, and Ballykinlar on the Friday afternoon.
