Dromara’s Kellett up with leaders

19 March 2014

THE new cross-country mountain bike races in Ulster kicked off last weekend as part of the Rostrevor Mountain Bike Festival at Kilbroney Park.

As per last year, the festival brought together off-road disciplines with the first round of the Irish Downhill Mountainbike Series taking place at the same time in the same park.

Dromara Cycling Club put on the cross country race with ChainReaction Cycles organising the down hill race and also providing support across both tough disciplines.

There were lots of strong performances from Dromara rides, but a few notable performances worth mentioning.

Great riding from Barry Kellett to take 4th place in the elite senior one race.

A top 10 finish for Paul Mawhirt in Senior 3 in his long awaited return to action. A brilliant second place for Peter Richie in Senior 4.

Second place in the Senior 3 females went to Stephanie Williamson.

In the youth races, second and third places were wrapped up in the U-8s by the diligent Ryan Williamson and Gerry Thompson.

The big winners on the day were the Wilson siblings with first place for Kelly Wilson in the U-14s and first place for Ben Wilson in the U-12s with two very impressive performances.
