Downpatrick couple welcome first baby on New Year’s Day

6 January 2021

A DOWNPATRICK couple celebrated the birth of their first baby on New Year’s Day.

Mum Keely Brennan and dad Adam McKee welcomed their daughter, Willow-Grace, into the world at the Ulster Hospital in Dundonald at 3.13am on January 1

Willow-Grace was the first baby to be born in the hospital in 2021 and weighed in at seven pounds and six ounces.

Keely (25), who works at the St Patrick Centre in Downpatrick, went into labour at her home on New Year’s Eve.

She said she decided to have a  water birth and that it all happened very quickly.

“She is just perfect. I am in my own wee bubble,” Keely said. I can’t believe she is here.”

Choosing a name wasn’t difficult for Keely either.

“Adam and I had loved the name for ages and when he suggested it, I said yip that is definitely for her.”

Adam, a musical entertainer who is well known as the lead singer of the Just Adam Band, said it has been a roller coaster of a time in their lives.

The pair had been planning to get married last June, but the coronavirus pandemic put those plans on hold.

“When we realised we would have to postpone the wedding, we thought covid-19 would not stop us having a child,” he said.

“Soon after we started trying, we found out Keely was pregnant,” Adam continued. “Willow-Grace was due around Christmas and obviously with it being such a special time, and so many important dates, we were wondering when she would make an appearance.

“When she was born on New Year’s Day, and most importantly of all, she was healthy, we were delighted.

“Both mum and baby are doing really well. We are just delighted to all be at home as a family,” he added.
