Dancers recognised at recent gala ball

3 January 2024

THE Brennan Miskelly McCormick School of Irish Dance celebrated all their recent successes at a gala ball in The Mill at Ballydugan recently.

One of the teachers in the dance school, Josephine Brennan King, former principal dancer and dance captain with Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance, said it was a wonderful evening.

“Our dancers from all ages donned their formal dresses and danced the night away until 1am,” she remarked. “It was fantastic to see parents, teachers and pupils all let their hair down after a very busy six months.”

The dancers had been training hard over the past few months as they competed in the Irish National, All Scotland and Ulster championships in September, October and November.

The dancers did themselves proud with the school bringing home Ulster titles and over 100 ulster medals.

“Our dancers get an all-round experience in Irish dance in our school” said Christine McCormick, one of the dance teachers.

“We are certainly driven and motivated when it comes to competition, but the dancers most important education is to develop a love and passion for Irish dance, that’s the main priority”.

At the Brennan Miskelly McCormick School of Irish Dance the dancers are prepared to compete at a high level, but they are also given a flavour of performance Irish dance with the summer school being a huge hit with the kids. This combines Irish dance with drama and musical theatre and lots of fun.

It has been an amazing 2023 for Brennan Miskelly McCormick and they are all looking forward to a busy 2024 with the All Ireland and World Championships followed a trip to the American Nationals in Dallas in July.

All three teachers in the school are proud of their dancers and are very grateful for their amazingly supportive parents.

Martina Miskelly, one of the teachers, said: “We are so lucky to have such a fab bunch of dancers and parents. It takes teamwork to make this dream work.”
