Murray hat-trick for Ballynahinch

Instonians IV 0
Ballynahinch II 6
JUNIOR 4

BALLYNAHINCH seconds maintained top spot in Junior 4 with an emphatic 6-0 win at Shaws Bridge last Saturday, with experienced striker Philip Murray weighing in with a hat-trick.
The game started in whirlwind fashion with play swinging from end to end, but neither side could produce that little bit of magic that would have led to the all-important opener.ß
Training on the synthetic surface two nights a week is paying a handsome divided for al Ballynahinch players, none more so than the club's enthusiastic second string.
The visitors took the lead against Instonians in the 21st minute from a short corner. Skipper Gary Marshall's shot was parried by the ‘keeper, with the ball landing at the feet of Murray who scored.
Two minutes later it was 2-0 when Murray again scored after the ball fizzed between a number of his team mates, including Stuart Hunter and Alex Millar. It was all one-way traffic and the only disappointing thing from Ballynahinch's point of view was that their interval lead wasn't greater.
But the visitors put that right within minutes of the restart.
Murray and skipper Marshall were again involved in the thick of the action and when the ball broke to David Watson, he scored his first ever goal for Ballynahinch to make it 3-0.
Lawrence Patterson was in his element in the middle of the park, spraying the ball about for his young team mates to terrorise the Instonians defenders with their attacking prowess.
The visitors scored again in the 51st minute with another sweeping move that typified Ballynahinch's play on the day. Jason Campbell went on a rampaging run and his cross was collected by David Bolton who crashed the ball home. But there was still more to come.
Patterson's towering performance was rewarded when he scored a peach of a goal to make it 6-0 following a short corner. His skipper's shot was saved but when the rebound fell to Patterson there was only going to be one outcome and he knew he was going to score from the moment the ball left his stick.
Another three points, another impressive performance and another bagful of goals, Ballynahinch seconds certainly deserve their place at the top of Junior 4.

THE hosts were keen to continue the good form they showed at Killyleagh and ran out comfortable winners by 54-35 shots.
On mat one Kevin Walsh and Greg Hamilton were involved in a tense struggle and Hamilton just got home by a 6-5 margin. On mat two the in-form rink of Laurence McCartan gave St. Michael's a real boost when they totally dominated the rink of Harry Addis in a splendid 8-1 win.
In the second quarter the tables were turned. Thomas Walsh put in a powerful display, winning five of the six ends in a comprehensive 10-1 win over Joan Farrell and Pat Lennon won five of the six ends in a good 5-3 win over the rink of Alan Telford. At the interval there was nothing in it as Drumaroad led 21-18 with the points shared at 2-2.
On the restart the successful home rinks continued where they left off. Pat Lennon's quartet may have only won three ends but they hit big scores on those ends to secure their double with a fine 9-3 win over Laurence McCartan. On the other mat Thomas Walsh's four were ruthlessly efficient as they powered their way to another double with a 15-2 demolition.
With the match now effectively over St Michael's had nothing left but their pride to play for. Alan Telford fought out an honourable 5-5 draw with Harry Addis and Joan Farrell secured a good 7-3 win over Kevin Walsh.
