Curtis powers to new Irish record

SAINTFIELD’S Curtis Mackin lifted his way to another national record at the Irish Drug Free Powerlifting Association’s National Championships at the weekend.

The largest event of its kind ever to be held in Ireland took place over two days in Gorey, County Wexford, and Curtis certainly made hay when the sun shone.

In this, only Curtis’ second ever competition, he more than made his mark. So much so that at the event, at just 19 years of age, he was singled out by the international judges for his lifting style and technique as being some of the best they had seen.

Curtis, who is coached by his father Seamus, is totally dedicated to the sport of Drug Free Power Lifting and his achievement at the weekend makes all the long hours and days in the gym worthwhile.

Curtis’ result at this event not only puts him straight through to the European Championships to be held in Belfast in May, his total weight lifted also qualifies him for the World Championships to be held in Moldavia in November.
