Crunch talks in bid to resolve Annsborough dispute

26 March 2014

TALKS were being held last night to ensure a £400,000 community project in Annsborough goes ahead as planned.

The Annsborough Community Forum has developed ambitious plans to build a new community facility attached to Annsborough GAA’s premises at the Ballylough Road in the village.

Plans for the new commu-nity building were due to be unveiled at a special event on Monday night but it was cancelled after it emerged that a number of parties were unable to agree particulars of a lease agreement to allow the project to proceed.

While a major question mark hung over the future of the proposed development after Monday’s launch was cancelled, it later emerged that talks between various parties were being held last night in a bid to reach agreement.

The Annsborough community building is scheduled to be developed in two stages, with the first featuring two handball courts, a reception area, toilet and shower facilities.

The second phase involves the provision of an upstairs meeting room, office space, viewing area and a lift.

The £220,000 required for phase one has been secured via the Ulster Wildlife Trust’s landfill tax credit scheme with work scheduled to start next month and be completed by September.
