Crossgar Harriers produce good times at Lisburn event

22 June 2016

MEMBERS of Crossgar Harriers joined approximately 3,000 other runners in Lisburn last week to take part in the annual half marathon and 10k road race.

The good weather certainly brought the crowds out with great support along the route from the locals in Lisburn, Maze and Culcavy, in what was a thoroughly enjoyable event.

Adam McKee, fresh from a sub 3:30 in the Derry Marathon the previous week, was first over the line for the Crossgar club in 1:34.

Shane McKay, Gary Curran and Adrian Magee ran a comfortable race to register a time of 1:49 and they were followed home by Alan Compton (1:54). The ever-improving Mary Enright knocked seven minutes off her Newry Half Marathon time to come home in 1:56 and was closely followed by the consistent Gemma Barr in 1:58.

Ryan Miskelly, making his comeback after the Belfast Marathon, ran well within himself to clock 2:05 and the half marathon crew was completed with Dawn Bell and Ann Burrows completing the course in 2:20.

A special mention to Ann as this represented months of hard work, culminating in this her first ever run over the 13.1 mile distance.

In the 10k event Seamus Fitzsimons, who is becoming a regular at races over this distance, was first home in just over the hour mark, closely followed by Julie Ferguson and Geraldine Kirkwood, two more runners who were having their first race after dedicated training over the last few months - the first of many with both enjoying the experience. Finally, Michelle Bell made light work of a niggling ankle injury to continue to add to her ever growing 10k medal collection.
