Council should take look at Downpatrick road cleaning

SIR, — I would like to know where the good workers are in Down Council?

Bridge Street in Downpatrick is one of the filthiest I have ever lived in. It is the forgotten street as no one in authority seems to care any more.

I have been on to MPs. MLAs about this part of Downpatrick and what have they done? Nothing.

I recently took it upon myself to brush the car park at the top of Bridge Street as it was in such a disturbing state. Where have all Down Council’s good men gone, they certainly aren’t working in Bridge Street.

Two men used to clean this part of the town but that was several years ago. They disappeared and have never come back.

It is not my job to get out and brush the street. I’m a ratepayer and only a good neighbour stopped me from brushing more recently.

I wish local councillors would waken up to the fact that good workers are hard to find. I come from farming country not far from Downpatrick and I know what hard work is like, working at flax, milking cows, feeding calves and pigs, gathering spuds and working at the hay and barley.

Down councillors should get off their high horses and get down to ground level where the real work needs to be done.

Yours etc.,

MARY FELL,

Bridge Street,

Downpatrick.
