Coronation Street star main attraction at Killough event

7 August 2019

CORONATION Street star Callum Harrison will be the guest of honour at a gala charity evening in Killough on Saturday.

The event, which takes place in the Killough Inn, includes a raffle and draw.

Readers will know Callum, who has family connections in the area, as Clayton Hibbs in the long-running soap who was recently seen on the programme in March.

Organised by local woman Monica Kelly, all proceeds of the night will aid kidney transplantation in Northern Ireland.

Monica and her family have good reason to want to give something back to the team at Belfast City Hospital and to help others have the chance of a new life through kidney donation.

Her son, Michael, received a new kidney in September last year through an innovative kidney donation swap with a family in Scotland.

Monica was planning to give one of her kidneys to Michael, who was suffering from renal failure, but ithere was a better option which also offered a lifeline to a Scottish mother and son.

She donated her kidney to the woman in Scotland, who was in need of a transplant, with her son donating one of kidneys to Michael. Mother and son do not know the identity of the pair to whom they are so closely linked, but hope one day to meet them.

Monica intends to reveal what she has raised from a charity abseil down Belfast’s Europa Hotel in May, which was followed by barbecue and draw at the Killough Inn.

She has pulled out the stops to organise a full evening for all with a distinctly Italian flavour, starting at 6.30pm with a pizza supper.

Callum will act as compere and organise the grand draw which has some top prizes kindly donated by local businesses. Music and dancing will be provided until late by The Quay String Band and DJ Tombo. Entrance is by donation.
