COMBER completely dominated this game against their closest rivals and in doing so confirmed their position as league champions, in their debut year, with two games to play.

On mat one, Anna Seaton, Gary Limmer, Kirsty Burns and Simon Cavan won four ends, with a count of six on the third, in beating the rink of Maura Fitzpatrick, Noel Walsh, Brian Denvir and Hugh Burns by 10-3.

And, in their second match, they won four consecutive ends in a 9-4 win over Damian Mageean, Paul Telford, Liam Higgins and Colly Gibson.

On mat two, Michelle Gribben, Trevor Harvey, Eric Kennedy and David Boal, five up after two ends, saw off the fightback of Alan Telford, Jenny Braniff, Marc Crothers and David Gibson to win 7-5.

In their second match, they shared the ends but lost narrowly, 7-6, to the Hugh Burns quartet.

Mat three had Sammy Gibson, Rhys Gribben, Phil McBride and Jordan McBride enjoying a five end win, with two counts of five shots to beat Colly Gibson’s rink 13-1 and continued to impress with another five end win, 9-4, over David Gibson.

DRUMAROAD brought their league campaign to a close with this high-scoring victory over Inverbrena.

With three mats down, the home side found difficulty in getting any rhythm going and Michael McGreevy, Roy Molliken, Tom O’Reilly and Gerry Reilly won only two ends in defeat 6-3 to Roseleen Hart, Liam Dumigan, Joe Scullion and Harry Addis.

Similarly, Christina Molliken, Freda Sharvin, Carmel Hanvey and Vincent Bent, again won only two ends conceding counts of four and two, twos in a 9-3 defeat to Bernie Mulvenna, Gerry McDonald, Adrian Mussen and Kevin Walsh.

On mat three, the home rink of Anne Kelly, Margaret Willis, Seamus McMullan and Margaret Magee, again only scored on two ends but ped six shots on end three in losing 10-2 to Joan McMullan, Marie Scullion, Malachy Murray and Dessie O’Neill.

With the match score at 3-0 at half-time, the second run of mats saw Inverbrena pull a point back when Gerry Reilly’s rink scored a narrow 5-4 win over Dessie O’Neill but heavy defeats for Margaret Magee, 8-1, at the hands of Kevin Walsh and Vincent Bent dropping five shots in one end to lose 10-2 to Harry Addis secured the victory for the visitors.

CONGRATULATIONS go to Crossgar who came out on top in this low-scoring game after suffering some recent defeats.

On the first run of mats, the rink of Anne Carson, Dermot Rooney, Teenie Bell and Maurice Tate lost the opening four ends, eventually going down by 8-4 to the foursome of Heather Mills, Granville Cooper, Jim Fletcher and Peter Scobie.

Meanwhile, on the other mat, Libby Brown, Nevin Jackson, Sean Carville and Alan Brown were winning four ends in a close 5-3 win over R Gribbon, Edna Johnston, Ann McMinn and Sally Seaton and going on again straight away was able, with the help of a count of four on the first end, to secure a 7-3 victory over Richard Sloan, Marie Donnan, Elizabeth McKinley and Adam Aitken.

Also scoring a four on the first end helped Gus Moore, Jim Carson, Bernie Carville and Richard Stewart on their way to a 7-4 win over the Peter Scobie rink and in the next game they won four ends in an 8-2 victory over Sally Seaton’s four.

On the final game the Maurice Tate foursome lost each of the first five ends by a single shot in a 5-1 defeat to Adam Aitken.

SAINTFIELD were denied maximum points in this match by virtue of losing the last game by a single shot.

On the first run of mats, Susan Hunter, Heather Jackson, Ken Young

and Gerry McMullan were trailing

after three ends but fought back strongly, winning the last three ends for a 7-3 victory over Frances Deegan, Sean

Deegan, John Graham and Hugh Porter.

On the other mat, Lawrence Swail, Libby Dunlop, Martin Morrow and Roy Copes were scoring heavily, with counts of two fives and two fours in a comfortable 21-1 victory over Hugh Gilchrist, Bobby Cusack, Geraldine Campbell and Andy Campbell.

Going on again immediately, Roy’s foursome took the opening four ends for another win, this time 6-4 over Peter Kelly, Dessie Curran, Sidney Stevenson and Niall Polley.

Saintfield were assured of match victory when Ronnie Phillips, Gibson Peak, Jim Alexander and Lorna Stevenson won four ends and despite conceding six shots on end five, held on for a narrow 7-6 win over the Hugh Porter rink.

At the last run of mats, the Andy Campbell rink had to play as a triple, due to a player being unwell but picking up five shots on the first end went on to share the ends and beat Lorna Stevenson’s rink by 9-7.

However, the loss of 0.25 shots for playing with a player short cost the triple 2.25 shots with the final score 7-6.75 in favour of the home side and

on the last mat, despite winning only two ends, a count of four on the

first end was enough to give Niall

Polley a narrow 5-4 win over Gerry McMullan.

St MACARTAN’S...................2 (25.5)

KILLINCHY brought their season to a close with this victory which keeps them in the top half of the league table.

Travelling with a player short and therefore losing 0.25 shots on two games but the visitors at a significant disadvantage from the off.

On mat one, the home rink of Beth McIlwrath, Michelle Chambers, Richard Davidson and Graeme Chambers dropped three shots on the first end which was to prove costly when Elizabeth Kennedy, Tony Green. Anne Marie McGreevy and John Gavin scored shot on the last end in a 5-4 win.

On mat two, in what appears a strange game, the rink of Ken Orr, Marie Geddis, Trevor Wilson and Ernie Kenmore won only a single end but a count of seven shots was sufficient to give them the win over the triple of Lil Burns, Meredith McGreevy and Maurice Cullen, whose six shots were reduced to 4.5.

Mat three was another close affair, sharing three ends each where Gavin Davidson, Paul Hagan, Anne McNeilly and Tom McNeilly conceded two shots on the last end to give a narrow 6-5 win to Ann Marie McGreevy, Betty McClurg, Joe Kennedy and Francie McGreevy. The half-time score was 2-1 to St Macartan’s.

The second run of mats was all in favour of Killinchy with wins for Tom McNeilly, 7-3 over Maurice Cullen, Graeme Chambers, 7-5 over Francie McGreevy, and Ernie Kenmore, winning five ends in a 7-2 victory over John Gavin.
