Club stalwart David receives Spence Cup

Club stalwart David receives Spence Cup

19 November 2014

SATURDAY was a special day as the Spence family came to Ballynahinch Rugby Club.

They were there for the inaugural presentation of the Spence Cup, awarded to the individual who shows most commitment to the club either on or off the pitch.

David Workman, a long serving member of Ballynahinch RFC, was unanimously voted for by the club council to be the recipient.

As someone who has previously been a club captain, ex-president and also chairman of Ballynahinch RFC for 24 years, as well as being an ex-president of Ulster Branch, it was felt he was warranted to have easily earned the accolade of being the first recipient.

Emma Spence and other members of her family were in attendance to make the presentation to a very surprised David.

Emma spoke about how her father and brothers would have welcomed the fact that David should receive the award and a humbled recipient alluded to how proud he was to receive such a prestigious award.

Also attending the pre-match lunch on Saturday were the fledgling Ballynahinch Ladies team, who were there to receive their new playing strip from their sponsors, Ask IT, Carlisle Fuels, Carlisles Fresh Foods, Nisa and KJM Electrical Ltd.
