Church collections

SIR, — Collections will be taken up outside various churches in the district this Friday evening and on St. Patrick’s Day as part of Seachtain Na Geailge (Irish Language Week).

The collection on Saturday morning will be outside St. Patrick’s Church in Downpatrick which is once again hosting a Mass in Irish as part of the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. The service starts at 10am.

The Lecale Gaelic Society is also organising its annual window competition in Downpatrick this week which will see businesses marked for artistic merit and use and prominence of the Irish language in window displays.
