Christmas spirit in Ardglass as event charges are withdrawn

SIR, — Contrary to the details outlined in the Christkindl circular, regarding the Christmas event at the marina in Ardglass, there will be no admission fee for any aspect of the event, including the visit to Santa’s grotto.

We appreciate that communities including our own, are experiencing the present harsh austerity period and in no way do we wish to worsen this. In fact, like events held during the recent summer festival, we consistently strive to produce events which create no financial burden on those attending or participating.

In the past, the Festival Association, which in itself is a registered charity, has supported commendable charities such as the RNLI and the Marie Curie Cancer Group.

We simply ask those attending the grotto to make a donation which will be passed onto the suicide support group PIPS. We feel that it is appropriate and important to acknowledge the vital work of this group especially in view of the recent tragedies in our home county.

I would like to take this opportunity to urge anyone, particularly young people, who are experiencing a phase of hopelessness or depression to confide in someone such as a family member, friend, teacher or anyone they can trust and discuss any issues which may seem insurmountable.

It is amazing how many people will feel privileged to be approached about this matter and will help resolve problems positively.

In recognition of each donation received at Santa’s grotto, a ticket will be issued for a free draw involving a variety of prizes.

Hopefully, the weather will be relatively good and people will flock to the marina on Friday, December 2, at 5.30pm. There we hope they will enjoy the festive atmosphere with carol singing, free treats, entertainment, a generous jovial Santa and stalls.

Yours etc.,

GERRY CASEY,

Chairman
