Charity truck show in Castlewellan

Charity truck show in Castlewellan

14 August 2019

THE fourth annual Castlewellan Truck Show takes place on Saturday, September 7.

This year’s show is in aid of three young children fighting three big battles.

Ollie Grant and Evie Keown were both born with the congenital heart defect Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome.

These children have been placed on urgent heart transplant waiting lists and their families’ lives have been put on hold as they have spent many weeks and months in hospitals both in Northern Ireland and in Britain.

The third child is Katie-Rose McKeown, who is battling cancer.

She was diagnosed with neuroblastoma and has been receiving frontline treatment with the aim to be in remission at the end of her treatment.

However, if high-risk neuroblastoma comes back then the chances of long-term survival to less than 10%.

Money raised will help towards Katie-Rose receiving the Bivalent Vaccine clinical trial at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. This treatment aims to keep neuroblastoma from returning.

The Truck Show committee, chaired by Damien Sloan, have come together to organise what promises to be a brilliant day for all.

Damien began the show four years ago with the aim of raising money for a different charity each year while also making it a fun day out for all the family.

There are four main sponsors this year; Lynch Haulage, Taste of New York Pizzeria, Drain & Sewer Control and Hollywood Signs, who are great supporters of the Truck Show.

A booklet will be available to purchase on the day showing all the generous businesses and people who have shown their support by placing advertisements.

The show kicks off at 1pm and there will be entertainment throughout the day for young and old — from music performances to bouncy castles. There will be prizes up for grabs for lorries entered, a raffle and an auction.

The show will finish with a truck run leaving Upper Square at 6pm.

Come on down and show your support for these three real life super heroes.
