Charity the big success story at Millbridge moto

THE County Down motocross community showed their generous side again when the Mourne Motorcycle Club held their eighth annual charity event last Wednesday.

The event was held at the Millbridge area of Ballynahinch to raise funds for the Ballynahinch branch of Cancer Research and the Mitre Trust Spinal Injuries Unit at the Musgrave Park Hospital.

There were eight classes on the night, each racing in three six lap races.

The first race on the line was the Grade C blue group and Ballynahinch man Ryan Calvert took the first win of the night, with Ardglass man Scott Rourke taking third and Bob Smith finishing in fourth position

Smith went on to win the next two races to win overall, as Calvert finished in second with two second place finished and Rourke finished third overall with third and fourth place finishes.

In the Grade C green group Crossgar’s Connor McMullan won the three races to take the overall victory. Waringstown rider Stephen White finished second with a second and two third finishes and Comber rider Ricky Suitor took the final podium position with fourth, second and fifth place finishes.

Killyleagh man James Lindsay won overall in the Grade C red group by taking fourth, first and second place finishes, with Hillsborough’s Mark Coburn finishing runner-up after coming home in first, second and fourth positions. Matthew King, from Annalong, finished in third overall with second, fourth and third place finishes.

The Evo class was won by Temple man Ricky Watt with one race victory and two second place finishes. Crossgar rider Joel Brown earned second overall with two thirds and a fifth place finish and Annahilt rider Andrew McLarnin took third with fourth, fifth and third place finishes.

Saintfield man Dean Colhoun started his busy night racing in two classes, by winning overall in the Quads Premier class with three race wins. Carrickmore’s Cathal McCartan earned second overall with two third places and a fourth.

As soon as his quad races had finished Colhoun started the next race as sidecar passenger for Gary Moulds and a second place finish in race one and victories in the second and third races meant an overall victory for the pair.

Richard Portis and Noel Burrows, from Lisburn and Clough respectively, finished second overall with a race win and two second places. Tony Willis and Ian Glenn finished third overall after three third place finishes. 

The Clubman Quads class was next on the line and two wins and a second place finish gave the overall victory to Aughnacloy’s Pauric Mohan. Maghera rider Sean Cassidy finished second with one race win and two second place finishes.

The final race on the line was the Experts A and B class. Banbridge rider Ryan Adair won overall with two race victories and a second place finish.

 

Newtownards rider Craig Browne finished second overall with first, second and third place finishes. Ballynahinch man Stephen Kelly was third overall. The top Grade B rider was Ards man Aaron Aston, with seventh, ninth and tenth place finishes. Doagh’s Paul Atkinson finished runner-up.
