Charity shop is vandals’ target over New Year

4 January 2017

POLICE are investigating damage caused to the front door of a charity shop in Killyleagh over the New Year weekend.

The shop is next door to the former Royal British Legion, which was also subject to an arson attack on Sunday night. It is not clear at this stage if the two incidents area related.

Referring to the incident, PSNI Down said on its Facebook page: “It appears as though this was done deliberately and now means that a shop that helps fund a brilliant cause has to find the money to repair the damage.

“If you have any information that would help identify the person responsible then please contact police in Downpatrick on 101 quoting reference 370 of January 2, 2017. Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously.”

Killyleagh councillor Billy Walker said: “This is an absolute disgrace to target a charity shop such as this doing good work in the community.

“I know they have been good enough to support me in a recent charity fundraiser and I appeal to anyone with any information to get in touch with police.”
