Carryduff recover to beat Glasdrumman

28 August 2013

CARRYDUFF maintained an intensity from the beginning to the end of this encounter and deservedly came away with two league points.

Glasdrumman got off to a promising start. After kicking a wide in the first minute of play, they had points from midfielder Colm Gribben and marauding corner back Ryan Clerkin before Conall Early’s eighth minute point settled Carryduff.

A point 12 minutes in from Colm Gribben gave the home side a two point advantage, but quick conversion from Conall Early and Joe McFlynn levelled affairs for Carryduff.

Four points in as many minutes established Carryduff as Barry O’Neill and McFlynn added further scores. Conor Cassidy broke forward and after a 50m run slotted over to extend Carryduff’s advantage and, although Mark Trimble converted a free kick for Glasdrumman in the 26th minute, McFlynn kicked his third point to gave Carryduff a half-time advantage of 0-7 to 0-4.

Points from Ronan Lawlor, Michael McGrath and Barry O’Neill stretched Carryduff’s advantage to six points and an industrious and resolute Carryduff defence made life very difficult for Glasdrumman’s forwards. Michael McGrath added a further point in the 39th minute and the one promising attack that may have seen Glasdrumman claw their way back into the game was thwarted when Barry O’Neill popped up on the Carryduff line to clear the ball away to safety.

He converted a free kick in the 46th minute to extend Carryduff’s lead to eight points. Glasdrumman had only a solitary wide to show for all their efforts until the 50th minute in the half when Raymond Magorrian added a point.

It was to remain their only score of the half. Carryduff continued to work hard throughout the entire pitch and Neill McGowan was unlucky to see his effort drift wide before Ben Fitzsimons (56th) and Cian Slevin (57th) added two further Carryduff points.
